Alison Berger is an artist whose medium is light and whose material is glass. Whether designing light fixtures, objects, furnishing or large scale sculptures, she uses age-old glass blowing techniques to create glass forms that transcend time and capture light.  The beauty of Alison Berger's fixtures are further embellished by a strong sense of history that is inherent in hand blown glass.  Glass art is formed from fire and earth in a magical process that is over 2000 years old.  She refers to her light fixtures as being atmospheric, small points of light emitted through dense glass; recalling fireflies.  The light fixtures we've included in our projects (shown here) defy style categories, fitting seamlessly, they are more akin to architecture than decor.  Just stunning.   Meet the Artist, Alison Berger: Museum of Glass

Bocci

The phenomenally successful Vancouver based company Bocci, produce extraordinary lighting objects.  In a world inundated with contemporary light product, theirs stands apart.  Modern fixtures that recall an ancient or almost primitive representation of candlepower. Creative director Omer Arbel's refined craft objects are imprinted with the hand of man and present humble materials in an honest unrepeated way.  Each form being unique.  The 21 Series pictured here, in photos from our recent lake house project installation.  Shows the delicate porcelain fittings artistically cascading, from a pop up ceiling over the central staircase.  The fixture reinvents itself from every angle and by time of day.  More of this project to follow.

Transcendent

Some interior design elements float between styles, and are equally at home in modern or traditional environments.  Aqua Creations produces elegant silhouettes in a timeless delicate ruching, that transcend style labels.  The Dippa pendant (pictured here), is a stylized organic form, as romantic as the panelled foyer it occupies, different but related sets of ideas.  I think our decision to use three colours, keeps it whimsical, while still feeling classic.  Aqua Creations is a perfect combination of artistic values and bespoke quality.

Let There Be Light

Lighting is perhaps the single most important factor in creating and experiencing interior spaces.   Both materials and form are enhanced with a well considered lighting design.  In successfully illuminated spaces, light needs to be emitted in a variety of ways, and from multiple directions / levels.  Anticipating how a room will be used, and designing for these functions creates space that is both flexible and rich in content.  

Using two tables in this large dining room provided a more intimate setting for entertaining smaller groups, but our client wanted to have the option of dining at a single large table for special occasions.   We worked in conjunction with Joel Berman Glass Studio, to create a feature light fixture that would allow for both these (+ other) options. The sculptural glass panels are lit by small LEDs  while the table surfaces are perfectly illuminated by recessed down lights.  Margot Richards was the lighting consultant for the entire project, and certainly cast her bright knowledgeable light.  The penthouse was recently featured at Home DSGN.
